The soul has lessons and is on a path of evolution and growth. The soul will present itself with challenges from one life time to another. However, the individual also has the ‘divine’ living within themselves. The purpose of all meditation is to contact to the divine within the self, not outside the self, but within the self.
There’s a flame within the heart. This is what the essence of spirit is, in the heart. It’s this eternal flame that is never extinguished, that is cosmic consciousness. That is joy, love, cosmic love, bliss. What prevents the individual from being in constant union with that is the ‘Ego Construct’.
You can picture it like a bubble, like a glass sphere, and it contains the soul or surrounds the soul. So, the Ego Construct is not eternal. Most people would be grateful for this bit of spiritual truth. The Ego construct gets put on like a coat, along with the physical body and only exists on the ‘earth plane.’
And the earth plane is one of the ultimate class rooms for the soul. So, the soul comes in and puts on the physical body as a coat. Now you don’t identify with the physical body and say, ‘This is what I am’ and ‘This is all I am’. You know that you have a physical body and you use the physical body.
Where it becomes confusing for people around the ego construct, is the ‘ego construct’ is the sense of identity and self-worth and self-esteem. So, the ego Construct when it is in balance and is healthy – is a servant of the DIVINE FLAME within that individual, which is in fact, enlightened and eternal.
These patterns that exist from lifetime to life time – let’s say an individual has been very controlling in other life times, or the individual has been angry or fearful from lifetime to lifetime – these will be ‘soul patterns’. The soul will be given an opportunity to transcend them. The ego construct is what makes it possible for the soul to work through some of these personality issues – these patterns, if you will, from lifetime to lifetime.
The reason we come to the earth plane is to challenge, transcend and go beyond these patterns. If you didn’t have certain patterns, there would be no reason to be here, because there would be nothing for you to do here in terms of the work. So you want to see the earth plane and earth mother, herself as an amazing opportunity.
We want to bring lightness and joy to the work while we’re here. The ego construct, in its confusion, its sense of itself, becomes inflated – especially through western culture and life experiences here. The way the culture is designed, it is diseased and dysfunctional. In indigenous cultures, especially in times past, ‘checks and balances’ were put in around the ego construct, so that the soul gets to do the work that it has come here to do.
The way that people were parented, the way that the society was set up, the ego construct was continuously ‘deflated’, where humility was valued. Courage was valued. Spirituality was valued. In the Lakota culture you were expected to do spiritual work, – to go on Vision Quests, to go within. These things keep the Ego Construct checked and balanced.
In ‘Western Culture’ there is a rewarding of the ego construct. People become addicted to feeling a certain way about themselves – addicted to feeling successful or to have their ego stroked by other people, and so they end up wanting to be around only people who will stroke their ego and to inflate the ego. And so they end up not feeling safe around people who will mirror them, or speak the truth and show them that their ego has become inflated.
So our culture is very out of balance. We’ve become a culture of very self-absorbed and narcissistic people. There are very few teachers walking the planet who are teachers to teach people how to bring the ego construct back into balance.
