Pakistani Taliban suicide bombers exploded themselves near two churches in the eastern city of Lahore on Sunday, as worshippers were gathered inside. Officials said fifteen people died, in this latest attack against religious minorities in the increasingly fractured country.
In the tense aftermath, angry mobs lashed out at people they suspected of involvement in the attacks, including one person who was burned to death. Christian crowds also set fire to cars in a show of defiance in Pakistan’s second largest city and the prime minister’s seat of power.
Life in Pakistan is increasingly fraught with danger for religious minorities, especially Christians. They have been targeted by extremist Sunni Muslim militants who object to their faith. Religious minorities are also discriminated against in wider society, where they can often only get menial jobs like garbage collection, and are frequently targets of blasphemy accusations.

Pakistan Officials Say Afghan Taliban Signal Readiness for Peace Talks
Senior Pakistani army and diplomatic officials said on Thursday the Afghan Taliban have signaled through the Pakistani military that they are willing to open peace talks, which could begin later in the day.
Sources in the Afghan Taliban said their negotiators would hold a first round of talks with U.S. officials in Qatar on Thursday, although no comment was immediately available from U.S. or Qatari officials.
Previous efforts to negotiate an end to a war that began in late 2001 have proved fruitless, but the latest signals raised hopes of a much-needed boost for new Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
A senior member of the Afghan Taliban said by telephone from Qatar, “The first session will take place today in Qatar and then there would be another session on Friday. Let us see what happens as talks before did not yield any results.”

Days after peace talk, Pakistan backstabs
Six days after the Foreign Secretary level talks Pakistan has betrayed India once again. The latest provocation came on Monday, when Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit met India’s haters Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. India has suspended dialogue with Pakistan in August 2014, when Pakistan envoy met Hurriyat leaders in the capital.

Pakistan: Taliban suicide bombs hit churches killing 14 and injuring 70+
At least 14 people were killed and a further 70 injured after two Catholic churches were targeted in twin suicide bombings in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore during Sunday services. Pinpointing the city’s majority Christian neighbourhood of Youhanabad, an outraged mob reacted to the bombings by reportedly lynching and burning to death a young man suspected of being involved in the attacks.

Christian protesters took to the streets in protest in Lahore after at least 14 people were killed and a further 70 injured after two Catholic churches were targeted in twin suicide bombings during Sunday services.
Suicide bombings in Christian area of Pakistani city kill at least 14 people
Karachi, Pakistan (CNN)Suicide bombers attacked a Christian community in eastern Pakistan on Sunday, setting off two blasts that killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens more, officials said.
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the deadly attack and warned of more to come.
The explosions, which struck the Nishtar Colony area in the city of Lahore, wounded at least 78 people, said Dr. Muhammed Saeed Sohbin, medical superintendent at Lahore General Hospital.
Video from the scene aired by CNN affiliate GEO News showed twisted metal, shattered glass and panicked residents outside a church compound. Ambulance and security personnel were seen moving in. Later footage showed water cannons arriving to disperse the crowd.
Pakistani Taliban reunited
Ehsanullah Ehsan, a spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban, said by telephone that his group was responsible for the suicide bombings, declaring that such attacks would continue until Sharia law is implemented in Pakistan.
After a period of disunity, the terrorist group’s three major splinter groups announced last week that they were joining forces again under the name Tehrik-i-Taliban, or TTP.
Prime Minister condemns attack
The Pakistani military has been waging a campaign against the militant group in North Waziristan, one of the loosely governed tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, whose government held unsuccessful peace talks with the TTP last year, strongly condemned Sunday’s attack, according to a statement from his office.
Sharif asked provincial governments to tighten security and “take all possible measures” to protect people and property, the statement said.

In the latest attack on religious minorities in Pakistan, twin Taliban suicide bombers blew themselves up at two Christian churches during Sunday mass in the country’s eastern city of Lahore, leaving at least 15 persons dead and more than 70 injured.
The blasts sparked mob violence in the area in which two other suspected militants were killed and later their bodies were set on fire.
The bombings occurred at Catholic and Christ churches, located around half a kilometre apart, in quick succession in the city’s Youhanabad area, one of Pakistan’s biggest Christian neighbourhoods, a home to about a million Christians.
The first suicide bomber detonated his strapped-explosives outside the main gate of St John’s Catholic Church after the security guard prevented him from entering the church where Christian families had gathered for Sunday service, a senior police officer. The second blast occurred minutes later in the compound of Christ Church.
