OPERATION BURQ
Rampant theft of electricity through illegal connections, meter tampering, and defaulting on payments of dues are issues that have consistently obstructed our efforts to provide quality service to our consumers and to reduce load shedding from the remaining 40% percent of the city. To counter this menace, K-Electric has launched Operation Burq in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Police. This is the largest crackdown campaign against electricity theft and default conducted by the company in the last 5 years or by any power utility.
Over the next several months, KE and FIA teams will conduct targeted raids for recovery against known defaulters and thieves. Remember! Stealing electricity is a serious offence that entails the following consequences:
- Raids and arrests by FIA and Police
- Non-bailable offence
- Up to 3 years imprisonment
- Fines up to Rupees 10 million
- Property Confiscation as per Inland Revenue Act
The Amnesty Period 1st May to 15th May, 2015 extended to all thieves and defaulters has ended, and KE will now be taking strict action against all those engaged in illegal activities. With the assistance of the FIA and Police, we aim to crack down on these grave issues with a firm hand.
The effort to correct the situation we face begin with, and depend on each of us. At this time, we request you to rise to the occasion and play your role in helping us fight these crippling issues.
