Making My Own Brickform Mold Concrete Walkway

Uploaded on Jun 8, 2009

What started out as a simple, “Oh, just lay down a few stepstones between the back porch and the gate” became this project. While shopping at Lowe’s, I found these form molds in the concrete aisle, and bought two. Thought I’d give it a shot. I did it in 2 parts. For the back yard molds, I used a mixer. Mixing two bags at a time and then adding the color tint while still in the mixer. It has held up to Indiana winters well. This past summer, I did the walkway from the rear gate to the front gate. Concrete mix – 1:2:3 parts by dry volume – one part portland cement, two parts sand, three parts coarse aggregate.
Use premixed concrete products if you are not confident in your ability to measure the basic materials.Add water carefully. Use the minimum amount of water possible while still keeping the mixture workable. The less water used, the stronger the dried, finishing product will be.
As an option you can use concrete water reducer. Water reducer available in our web store.

This video tutorial details the process of casting warped decorative concrete elements in rubber molds made from our liquid mold rubber. The original model was constructed through a series of steps involving wood, silicone rubber, and polyurethane casting resin.

The mold of the finished model is made from a soft, flexible, two-part polyurethane rubber: Poly 74-20 Liquid Rubber (more information on this liquid rubber: http://goo.gl/H8t24e).

The finished concrete décor can be used for a variety of purposes, including tables, planters, light housing, garden décor or garden trellis, artwork, decorative panels (when cast flat), and much more. The possibilities are endless!

The steps in the process are listed below:

Steps:
1. Design & Construct Model [0:28]
