Natural Remedies to Use When You Can’t Sleep

With these high energy times on the planet, our sleep cycles are shifting and have been for quite some time. You may find that you can no longer sleep the entire night through and you wake up often. At times with powerful energy waves, this can be an indication of these higher light phases integrating into our bodies and energy fields and our conscious state may be called on for full integration. Our bodies are changing on a cellular level and with these higher light frequencies, sometimes are bodies only require a certain amount of sleep per night to fully function. You may miss the days of a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep but these times may not always call for that.
If you find yourself awake at night and are frustrated by the inability to fall asleep. Here are some tools and tips to use to ease your mind, body and energy if that occurs.

1.Step Away from Technology~

If this is a pattern for you, try stepping away from all technology an hour before bed. Melatonin is the chemical that is released within your body that prepares you for sleep. The light of screens from technology prevent melatonin production and trick your brain into thinking it is still daylight. Set the stage for the proper melatonin release by having a technology break.

2. Stretch before bed~

If you have aches and pains in your body, this may be distracting as you try to fall asleep. Try gentle stretching before bed to open up your muscles and stretch out some of that tension.

3. Meditation~

If you feel called to meditate before bed, you may sit quietly with your eyes closed for as long as you are able, to begin to transition from the outer world into the inner world. If you need assistance, try the wealth of guided meditations online that are available for this purpose.

4.Magnesium~

Our over stressed lifestyles in this day and age can deplete us of our magnesium levels. Magnesium helps to calm, relax and regulate our bodies. Try a magnesium supplement or CALM powder (magnesium that dissolves in warm water).

5. Cortisol~

Cortisol is the hormone within you that spikes when under prolonged stress. If we have had chronic stress in our lives, cortisol can remain elevated in a fight or flight response. This can act as somewhat of a caffeinated feeling as cortisol is stimulating and can peak in the late hours, keeping us awake. 
Adaptagenic herbs can assist with balancing cortisol levels, especially medicinal mushrooms, or try Tulsi Tea aka Holy Basil, which helps to balance this as well. If you are concerned of your cortisol levels, consult a health practitioner to have them checked.

6. Drink Herbal Tea~

Try drinking warm tea before bed such as a calming chamomile, lavendar tea, or if you need something a little stronger, Kava Kava or Valerian tea.
